BUILDING STUDIES

With a background in Architecture and Design and having also worked in the construction industry for a number of years, Walker has always been obsessed with the typologies of buildings. Many of his projects have focused on particular buildings; some iconic, some less well known, Through spending time observing, drawing and photographing these places, Walker attempts to discover what he terms’ the individual language’ of a particular building before choosing how to depict it

He then develops very particular palette, range of material and techniques for how the painting is made, so what may at first seem an eclectic range of renderings, he is actually being driven by both the language, the processes and the materials themselves, much as in the construction of an actual building.

So whether it is Parc De La Villette in Paris, the Barbican or the Shard in London, or an individual Brutalist London building threatened with demolition (or sometimes already gone), each will be depicted in it’s own particular manner.
