CITYSCAPES
Walker has been documenting the construction sites throughout the city for several years, one work depicting the Switch-house at Tate Modern going on to win The Signature Art Prize for Painting in 2015.
This led to a study of the brooding concrete monoliths of Brutalism, buildings loved and loathed in equal measure but still worthy of further consideration. Whilst some, Trellick and Balfron Towers become iconic ambassadors of cement and steel, with prices as stratospheric as the views, others such as Keybridge House in Vauxhall are quietly erased from the skyline and collective memory.
These works formed part of a joint show ‘Convergence: Swim, Walk, Explore’ with Lucy Devenish at Contemporary Collective in Hackney, exploring aspects of the city and offering a new perspective on the built environment around us.
